     Small Grants Program

October 2008 - to present - JOBS PLUS Project , financed by Argidius Fondaition and CRS.
JOBS PLUS Project is implemented by CRS-Moldova and CAMIB NGO.

The problem of rural poverty remains substantial and unabated in Moldova. Rural poverty - now standing at 42.5% in villages and 48.5% in small towns - is increasing in Moldova and has risen 5% since the lowest recorded incidence in 2003. More than 63% of Moldovans live in these rural and impoverished areas, depending largely on subsistence agriculture and remittances from abroad for their livelihoods.
The goal of the JOBS PLUS Project is to contribute to the long-term development goal of transitioning vulnerable and impoverished rural women, youth and families in Moldova from poverty to prosperity - a change of state measured in both economic and 'quality of life' terms.

The strategic aims of the project beneficiaries are to be able to:

    • Generate adequate income to support themselves and their families; and,
    • Improve the quality of life and social conditions in their communities.

In order to accomplish abovementioned aims, the main objectives of the JOBS PLUS Project will be to:

    • Assist beneficiaries to:
        -Acquire decent, sustainable employment.
-Identify, fund and undertake needed community improvements.
    • Empower women and youth to make positive changes in their personal lives and their communities.

The projected results of the JOBS PLUS Project:

    • Local enterprise and job creation projects will generate new jobs for rural communities.
    • Beneficiaries of the project will:
        - Obtain job-related skills training to enable them to gain employment.
        - Identify and undertake needed community improvements and enhancements to the quality of life in project communities.
        - Create social investment funds for funding identified improvements.
    • Rural women and youth in project communities will:
        - Have the capacity to build sustainable livelihoods.
        - Understand their rights as workers and know how to identify and resist unfair labor practices and forced labor and human trafficking schemes.
